Queen of the Lakes: Derwentwater

Derwentwater, Lake District (April 2012).

Just south of Keswick in the Lake District sits the Queen of the Lakes, Derwentwater. This gentle beauty of a lake is about three miles long and a little over a mile wide.

The views in these photos can be seen by standing on a cliff about a half a mile past Ashness Packhorse Bridge. The location is not marked, but can be found just opposite a small parking lot. If you’re in the area, this slightly out-of-the-way viewpoint is worth the detour. And for an even closer look right now, just click on the photo above.
