Minnewater (“Lake of Love”), in Bruges, can be quite a romantic spot at night. If fully immersed in a lover’s adoring eyes one might miss the bigger picture (which wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing under those circumstances). But should one break away from a lover’s gaze to enjoy Minnewater at night while standing upon a certain bridge, this is what such an observer might see.
The church of “The Vineyard” monasterium (De Wijngaard, a Begijnhof (Dutch) or Béguinage (French)) is bathed in golden light while the tallest tower in the city, which belongs to the Church of Our Lady (Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk), can be seen glowing in the distance. On this particular night, the blue glow in the sky claimed its origins in the nearby Christmas market.
