Gnarled Tree in Steall Gorge, Glen Nevis, Scotland

Glen Nevis is a glen located at the foot of some of the highest mountains in Britain, including Ben Nevis, which is the highest. At the end of the Glen Nevis road is a steeply walled gorge leading to Steall Falls, which is one of the three highest waterfalls in Scotland. Amongst all this superlativeness, a gnarled tree clings to the side of Steall Gorge, seemingly doing everything it can to hold on and live. This tree may not be the biggest or the best, but it stands out nonetheless.
