Couple Standing on a Hill at the Base of the Storr, Isle of Skye, Scotland.
I’m a sucker for silhouettes of couples, so when I saw this couple climbing up a small hill at the base of the Storr as I made my way down from the summit, I just had to stop and take a photograph.
As you can see from the picture, recent logging has stripped the mountainside of trees, leaving just a few trees clustered around the small hill. It’s sad to see the remnants of the trees that once stood on the hillside, but the logging did allow for the unobstructed view of the Storr enjoyed by this couple.
This images should provide a little more context. Logging remnants are apparent, but without many trees, Loch Leathan is visible in the distance.
And, finally, this is the view the couple would have been enjoying as they looked up at the Storr and the rock formation known as the Old Man of Storr (which is a little hard to make out in this image because it is in shadow).
If you’d like to see the view from near the top of the Storr, which includes the hill shown in this post, have a look at Storr View.

In a lavender field at Cotswold Lavender, Snowshill, Gloucestershire, UK.
I don’t know if these two people are a couple, because I only saw them in the fields taking photos together. However, romantic that I am, I imagine that I captured an intimate moment as they shared more than their mutual love of photography.

Fountain and Cloth Hall (Sukiennice) in Kraków’s Market Square (Rynek Główny).
Rynek Główny, the main market square in Kraków, Poland, is the largest Medieval town square in Europe. A modern fountain is located near the Renaissance-style Cloth Hall, which sits in the Square’s center. Although of a different architectural era, the fountain provides a pleasing contrast to the much older buildings within and around the Square.
During my husband’s and my visit, the Square was full of activity from morning until night. The fountain reflected this lively feeling with its constant motion: the water’s flow, the rise and fall of the water spouts, and its rippling and reflective surfaces.
The Market Square fountain with St Mary’s Basilica and her Gothic towers behind.
Interesting how the fountain’s activity seemed to slow down those who were around it, allowing for a more restful appreciation of the fountain and its surroundings.

Hills seemingly covered in animal hides, Cairngorms National Park, Scotland.
Between Tomintoul and Ballater in Cairngorms National Park, the A939 winds through remarkable hills with an animal-skin type appearance. These images were taken just south of the A939/A944 junction (Google Maps: 57.151653, -3.167048).

A tiny fly blowing a bubble while standing on top of a tiny bud on a flowering tree. I tried to find out what kind of flowering tree and what kind of fly by looking through images on the Internet, but haven’t been able to identify either so far.
To give a sense of scale, the bud on which the fly is standing is slightly smaller than the head of a dressmaker’s pin.
I captured the fly images as I was playing around with my Canon EOS 550D with a 10x filter attached to the 18-55mm lens. My focus had been the profusion of tiny flowers and buds all over a tree in my garden. Although the flowers resemble cherry blossoms, the blossoms are actually much smaller, hence the magnifying filter. Looking through the lens while focusing on clusters of tiny blossoms, I was surprised by all the tiny life I discovered. Aphids, tiny beetles, spiders, and, of course, this mini fly.
I noticed this fly grooming itself while standing on a flower bud. But then I realized that it was beginning to “blow” a bubble. Focusing manually as best I could, I took a slew of photos with mental fingers crossed. Later, as I scrolled through the images, I was delighted by what my camera had captured and chuckling because the fly’s eyeballs looked an awful lot like big cheeks, which made the fly resemble, strangely, a teenage mutant ninja turtle blowing a bubble.

Near Elgol, Isle of Skye, Scotland.
My husband and I were so looking forward to a boat trip from Elgol to Loch Coruisk on the Isle of Skye. We were drawn to the area by photos of fantastic scenery but, unfortunately, we arrived on a day when Elgol and the surrounding area were socked in. Even so, we had a pleasant out-going boat ride in the mist with much of the fog burning off by the time we made the return trip to Elgol. This house on the coast looked far more isolated and mysterious when shrouded in fog.

Tree beside Loch Maree with Slioch behind, Scotland.
If you’re ever in the vicinity of Loch Maree, Scotland, consider stopping at the parking area just off the A832 (Google Maps: 57.663766,-5.435937). If you follow a short path heading east from the car park, you can enjoy this lovely Loch Maree cove with Slioch mountain behind (assuming decent weather and visibility, of course).
